Just after the Easter Services in 2014 we noticed growing cracks which appeared in the church ceiling just above the organ. Urgent measures had to be taken to make it safe and scaffolding had to be erected right through the nave supporting a crash platform.
As well as doing as much fund-raising as we could in the community, the PCC applied to many fund granting bodies to help towards the cost of repairs. This may rise well above £100,000 depending on the condition of the roof structure when it has been investigated. We have so far been very fortunate in receiving a generous conditional grant which could total £86,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Progress with the repairs has been frustratingly slow. As with any such project a number of bodies have to be involved with its supervision. Coordinating these into moments when everyone could be available has proved difficult, but gradually progress is being made.
